The DTLV Block Party: Putting Our All into a Half of a Half

HOH_Zappos On November 17, 2013, thousands of locals and visitors will run in the Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. The Marathon is a 26-mile crucible through which living gods and skinnier Elvises are forged. Only a few bold are up to such a challenge, which is why there’s a half-marathon component, as well — 13 miles of lean and mean, a maker of superheroes who dare to dream of walking with those gods and maybe asking them out.

But we are mortals at our core, and many of us need an entry-level challenge. That’s the Half of the Half, which at just over six miles is a run for the rest of us: the everyday heroes, who like to balance our Olympian physiques with a humanizing beer gut. Or maybe we made a New Year’s Eve resolution we don’t want to shake off. Whatever the case, Vegas Seven and are taking advantage of the Half of the Half’s finish line — located in our beloved Downtown Las Vegas — to do what we humbly admit we’re pretty good at: We’re throwing a party there.

At 4:30 p.m. on November 17, The Block Party will take over the parking lot at the corner of Fremont and Seventh Streets (across from El Cortez and Container Park, respectively). We’re really gonna attack that block with all we’ve got: live DJs, food trucks (Slidin’ Thru and Sin City Wings are scheduled to appear), local businesses (including Hot Mess Boutique), and best of all, a beer garden from which you can watch the Marathon huff and puff its way by. And there’s no cover charge, so your friends and family can meet you at the Block Party and either hug or not hug you. (You have been running, you know.) Like I said, we know a bit about parties.

The Block Party gonna be a great time — Olympus on Earth, practically speaking. And we hope to see you there, whether you run or saunter in. For the full details on the Marathon, visit
