On June 5, Life Is Beautiful joins First Friday to present Music Is Beautiful, an event with two goals: to give a local Las Vegas band places in the LIB lineup this September, and “to shine a light on the awesome musical talent we have in Las Vegas,” First Friday’s Rico DeLargo says.
An epic, battle-of-the-bands-style showdown, Music Is Beautiful will feature more than 20 bands spread across eight stages—Artifice, Bunkhouse, Commonwealth, Container Park, Inspire, Park on Fremont, Velveteen Rabbit and the First Friday main stage—with each artist playing their tightest 30-minute set for a panel of local judges. Fan reaction is a key element in the competition, which means you could well scream, clap and holler your favorite local band into a spot in the Life Is Beautiful lineup. (Social media works, too: First Friday and Life Is Beautiful will keep track of all tweets and photos with the #musicisbeautiful hashtag.)
And DeLargo promises that the runners-up won’t go away empty-handed.
“Five of the remaining bands will go on to have headlining performances at one of the participating venues,” he says.
Music Is Beautiful happens from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 5, and there’s no cover at any of the venues—though most of them, with the exception of Container Park and the First Friday main stage, will enforce a 21-and-over door policy. If you’re a local musician who’d like to vie for a spot on the Life Is Beautiful lineup—or if you’d like to nominate your favorite band—visit the First Friday Facebook page and make lots and lots and lots of comments.
