Daniel Ontiveros has left the head chef position at Downtown’s Therapy. Ontiveros served as executive chef at Comme Ça in the Cosmopolitan in the months leading up to its closing. After that, he opened Therapy on Fremont Street, which proved to be an overnight hit with the Downtown crowd.

In Ontiveros’ absence, Daniel Laferriere is running the Therapy kitchen. Laferriere worked under Ontiveros at both Comme Ça and Therapy, serving as executive sous chef at the latter before his recent promotion. There’s no word on whether Laferriere will hold his new position permanently, or whether a new executive chef will be brought on board.

Ontiveros’ sudden departure comes as a bit of surprise, at least to me. On October 27, he sent me a message to thank Vegas Seven for naming Therapy’s In the Gnudi appetizer the Best Small Bite in the city. The chef made no mention of a move, and hasn’t responded to inquiries seeking comment.
