After streaming acoustic sets at home for fun on live-streaming platform Periscope, husband and wife Kyle and Bee Harris created Vegas Live Sessions with partner Cameron Dettman.
The intimate concert series features local musicians playing acoustic sets every other Sunday night tucked away at Indie Flare studio on Commerce Street in the Arts District. The team has had a strong positive response after only four shows, the first being early November 2015.
“The bands all said it was one of their favorite shows they ever played because of the intimate setting and how unplugged it was,” says Kyle, who manages the Vegas Live Sessions’ social media, marketing and graphic design.
But don’t confuse the Live Sessions with your typical open mic (although they are considering featuring an open mic night in the future). Dettman, who books the talent, looks for experienced musicians. Past artists include The Perks and Daniel Park. Next Sunday’s lineup includes Cameron Calloway and Sonia Seelinger.
“With us, you don’t have to be a name, you just have to be good,” says Bee, who is a musician herself and played the third Vegas Live Sessions.
Indie Flare fits about 40 people comfortably and the event is already outgrowing the space. They are considering moving to other spots, but the goal is to keep the shows exclusive, all-ages and, the best part, free.
For now, the team continues to experiment and grow the event. In the future they hope to book outside artists and continue to raise the talent level that graces the Live Sessions stage.
“From an artist’s stand point, it’s the best audience to be able to play for,” says Dettman. “And from an audience standpoint, it’s all about the music. It’s a cool spot. Everyone is supportive, it’s not loud and annoying, and the level of exclusivity makes you feel like it’s this thing you know about [that nobody else does.]”
