It’s not abnormal to see a guy in cuffed jeans, a white T and slicked back hair holding hands with a curvy, tattooed betty in shirtwaist dress sipping cocktails. The new Atomic Style Lounge embraces those modern age dolls and daddy-os with open arms.
The full-service salon, located on 1237 S. Main St., opens Wednesday right before the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend at the Orleans Casino. (Festival founder Tom Ingram is a partner in the salon).
While the seven stylists have an affinity toward the ‘50s and ‘60s, they are equally skilled in contemporary styles and techniques. Services offered include cuts, signature styling, blowouts, color, hair treatments and full makeup for women, and cuts and hot towel relaxation mini-facials for men. Prices range on the premium end; cuts start at $55, with discounts for locals.
If you really want to travel back in time, Atomic Style Lounge offers a free transportation service to-and-from the Strip in a 1960 aquamarine Cadillac.
In addition to traditional salon services, a retail space, stage and lounge area fill the 1,776-square foot salon with an attached back patio.
Expect to find items such as vintage chemistry sets and streamlined tube radios, as well as modern day retro-themed items such as hip flasks, compacts and cigarette cases. For the dudes, premium shaving products and kits, pomades, and handcrafted beard and moustache items from Dr. Pennskin are available.
The Mad Men-esque lounge with a custom bar will serve complementary root beers and small batch sodas with possible plans to serve alcohol in the future and the backyard space will be open for First Fridays and other events while live bands and DJs preform on the stage in the front of the salon.
The grand opening party takes place from 6 -11 p.m. on April 13 featuring performances by local and L.A.-based rockabilly and surf bands, go-go dancers, DJs, a food truck, and beer and wine. Atomic Style Lounge is open Tues. and Weds. 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., Thurs.- Sat. 10 a.m – 8 p.m., and Sun. 11 a.m – 5 p.m. Closed Monday.
