Winter Sports Festival Returns to Downtown

Snowboarding may not be synonymous with the desert, but spectating the sport is now a Downtown tradition as Pfahler Productions brings the Las Vegas Throwdown—and 60 tons of snow—to the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center on November 12.

Hosted by skate legend Dave Duncan and sponsored by WENDOH Media, the parent company of Vegas Seven and DTLV.com, the action sports and music festival brings high intensity sports such as snowboarding, skiing and BMX to the events space. The all-ages event will feature 60 athletes, 20 live bands and DJs, a vendor village, local food, craft beer and more.

Keith Pfahler, owner of Pfahler Productions and ramp and rail builder ParkFab, says to expect “the best of the best when it comes to live action sports.”

Though the Downtown events center will hold the event for the first time, the neighborhood is no stranger to the escapade. Previously known as Park Jam, Pfahler transformed a stretch of Fremont Street into a winter sports playground in 2014 and 2015.

“Downtown has been so great to us over the past three years and we love the way that it is growing, just like Throwdown is,” Pfahler says.

This year’s event will be three times the size of its previous iterations with the additions of both BMX and skiing.

Plan to get to the event early to take advantage of the added rides and attractions, including a giant airbag you can jump onto from a 20-foot high platform, live music, or for the pure pleasure of watching the team of builders crush 60 tons of ice and transform it into fluffy, powdered snow. You might even spot a few celebrities, Pfahler says, along BMX riders from Brazil, Olympic athletes from around the world, X Games gold winners and more.
