The Year of the Rooster and Golden Sours

Friday:  The January installment of UNLV’s Neon Lit series is back at The Writer’s Block tonight. The event features readings by a diverse group of student writers from UNLV’s MFA program. Come enjoy free snacks, drinks and exceptional storytelling. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Saturday: The Girls Empowerment Tour is in town to inspire and uplift young girls ages 8-12 with a free showing of the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures, followed by a Q&A with supporting actress, Karan Kendrick. Lunch follows at Simply Pure Vegan Cafe in Container Park. Seat reservations are recommended. The movie starts at 10:30 a.m. at AMC Rainbow Promenade. Bring the family Downtown as the Las Vegas Spring Festival celebrates Chinese New Year with a parade starting at 11 a.m. on Fremont and 11th streets making its way to the entrance of Container Park where an after party will be going on until 6 p.m. (Later next week, catch live lion and dragon dances at the Golden Nugget at 5, 6, and 7 p.m. in the Baccarat pit on January 31.)

Banger Brewing turns 3! Come celebrate with $3 beers starting at 12 p.m. Imbibers can also purchase a bottle of their third-anniversary beer, Golden Sours as it debuts at the party. Bottles $25, limited quantities available.
