Name: Curtis Joe Walker
In Vegas since: Born and raised
Occupation: Owner of Photo Bang Bang, a photo studio on Imperial Avenue. Also on the board of directors of the Las Vegas Arts District Neighborhood Association.
Secret: Doing the Arts District on the cheap
I like the Arts District because it’s a good place to walk around at the magic hour and get photos. The alleyways are littered with filth and street art, which is very authentic and hard to find in many other parts of the city. The Arts District is balanced between the two worlds of scary places and friendly places, as an urban hipster playground. Free parking is a bonus and makes exploring the neighborhood a lot easier.
There are several weed dispensaries for patients, and it’s nice to have the ability to walk into a shop and buy some pre-rolls whenever the mood strikes. Canopi on Third Street has $100 ounces every day. New Amsterdam posts its deals on Weedmaps.com, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye out for sales.
First Friday is free and a good event to meet people and acclimate to the local art scene. Check Groupon.com for meal deals at Casa Don Juan Mexican restaurant. There’s A-Action Adult Books on First Street and the titillating Sin City Gallery at the Arts Factory and the Burlesque Hall of Fame (currently in Art Square). My neighborhood is like a mini-Amsterdam with an assortment of cultural pursuits.
