Usually around this time, the Life Is Beautiful festival team starts to drop subtle hints about festival performers on social media. They’ve been tight-lipped so far, but a big bombshell just came early this morning via the U.K.
Virtual hip-hop/indie/alt-rock/electronic/everything group Gorillaz announced a 17-date U.S. tour, kicking off July 8 in Chicago. The group—whose flesh-and-blood members include frontman Damon Albarn, illustrator Jamie Hewlett and their team of collaborators—will make their way to the Las Vegas festival on September 24. It will be their first Sin City performance ever. We can only assume it’s a headlining slot, given the magnitude of the band.
The tour will be in support of their upcoming album, Humanz, which is scheduled to drop April 28. Their first since 2010’s Plastic Beach, the album will feature guests such as Grace Jones, Pusha T, De La Soul, Benjamin Clementine and more. Recently-released singles such as “Ascension” featuring Vince Staples and the Pusha-T and Mavis Staples-assisted “Let Me Out” show a more political lean. According to Pitchfork, Humanz was conceived as a party album for the end of the world.
Billboard reports that several of the album’s featured guests will join them on tour. Fingers crossed that they bring out the big guns for Life Is Beautiful.
