Your Friday-Night Veggie-filled Itinerary for Downtown

Stuck for what to do on a Friday night that doesn’t involve a generic restaurant or bar? Get out of the rut with a twist on the movie date night that starts with a plant-based meal, followed by a flick in the Valley’s newest movie theater and ends at an antiques shop that doubles as a groovy bar. So park in the free parking spots after 6 p.m. on Bridger Avenue and make Downtown a one-stop destination.

VegeNation (616 East Carson Ave., is one of the most coveted spots for Downtown dining thanks to chef Donald Lemperle and his menu that lures vegans and meat eaters alike. Get there before 7 p.m. and take advantage of the two-for-one sangrias, wine and beer. Start with the Buffalo cauliflower (it sells out, so order it as soon as you sit down) and then indulge in Chicken Pot Pie Gnocchi or the Thai Curry veggie bowl. Finish up with homemade tiramisu or the oh-so-popular (and massive) brownie sundae.

Take the date up a notch and catch a film at Eclipse Theaters (814 S. Third St.,, where you won’t hear any crying babies thanks to the adults-only policy after 6 p.m. The 21-and-over venue has an on-site restaurant (with more vegan eats), a bar and a lounge whipping up cocktails, as well as VIP suites. With eight screens, you can catch the latest box-office releases (hello, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, opening May 5) and independent films. Dig on the reclining seats and call buttons for ordering, so not even a minute of dialogue is missed.

Everything in ReBAR (1225 S. Main St., is for sale, including the piecemeal bar itself. This dark and cozy watering hole tucked away on Main Street has drink prices that are appealing (wine starts at $4 a glass) and a hefty selection of craft beers. Purchasing from the Charitable Cocktails list benefits local organizations including the Las Vegas Arts District and a rotating roster of animal philanthropies like Home for Spot and Bark Happy. Curl up on a couch and play some Trivial Pursuit or grab a late-night snack such as a vegan kielbasa and end your night here.
