7th & Carson Offers Free Tastings of Scotch and Irish Whiskeys

7th & Carson flies the Irish flag on its roof and in its glass.

Since opening in late June, 7th & Carson, named for its location in Downtown Las Vegas and situated opposite Container Park, has made a point to give back to the community. Its latest outreach is Whiskey Weekends, featuring complimentary tastings of high-end Irish and Scotch whiskeys hosted by experts on the brands being poured.

Up first on Friday, January 5, will be a celebration of Scotch whiskey with Master of Scotch Rick Edwards, who will walk attendees through five selections: three expressions of Aberlour Highland Single Malt (including Aberlour A’bunadh) and Chivas Regal 12-Year and 18-Year. On Friday, January 12, it will be the Irish’s turn, with an Irish Distillers ambassador pouring four selections from the Jameson distillery (including Jameson Black Barrel and Jameson Caskmates). The event begins at 7 p.m.

“I’m born and raised in County Wicklow, Ireland, so we fly the Irish flag on the roof and our restaurant has a very strong Irish flavor,’ says 7th & Carson owner Liam Dwyer. “We want to bring in whiskey from around the world–specifically from Ireland and Scotland in the next two weeks– and chose Scotch in addition to Irish whiskey because the Scotch and Irish stick together. This is a way to give back to the community, and we want to give something back to the people who have supported is in the past months.”

In addition to the free tastings, 7th & Carson mixologist Oscar Takahashi will be preparing cocktails, priced at $12, featuring the spirits being highlighted. Much like a sommelier does, Takahashi greets each table and asks what customers will be eating and their preferred base liquor. He then creates a drink to complement their preferences, so the food and beverage can be enjoyed as a unit.

7th & Carson, whose culinary program is designed by Gregg Fortunato, was recently selected as one of the Essential Restaurants in Eating Las Vegas 2018.
